Preparatory Ballet - Summer 2020

Preparatory Ballet is a beginning course where the technical foundation is laid for higher levels of ballet training. Enrollment is open to male and female children ages 5-11 years old.

DETAILS:

Each weekly class session meets for five days, Monday-Friday, for 45 minutes each day (in-person) or 30 minutes each day (if choosing the virtual option). Children must be no younger than 5 years old and no older than 11 years old on the first day of the session.

Preparatory ballet summer sessions are appropriate for both for absolute beginners as well as children who have previous experience in a basic or beginner level ballet course. Preparatory dancers are encouraged, but not required, to sign-up for multiple weeks in order to maximize progress. The content of each week's class will vary slightly.

Project Ballet has implemented strict procedures to protect the health and safety of our students and staff during in-person classes. Our waiting room is indefinitely closed and parents will utilize a car line for drop-off and pick-up - with the exception of new students who can be escorted inside by a parent on the day of their first class. Our waiting room is closed and we are strictly limiting the number of people permitted in the building. Each studio is thoroughly sanitized between each class, and the whole building is professionally cleaned each evening. Class capacity has been significantly reduced to allow ample space in the room for our children and teachers to be at least six feet apart at all times. Our teachers and staff members always wear masks. It is optional for students to wear masks, depending on the preference of their parent.

DRESS CODE (virtual session):

Your child should wear ballet clothes or exercise clothes that will allow them to move freely, comfortably and modestly. Pull long hair back off the face in a pony tail or bun. Ballet shoes are optional. If your child does not have ballet shoes they can wear socks or bare feet.

PREPARING MY CHILD FOR CLASS (in-person classes):

- Make sure your child uses the restroom before class. If they should need to use the restroom during class, a staff member will double check to make sure they wash their hands before returning to class. Our restrooms are sanitized frequently throughout the day and professionally cleaned each evening.

- Be sure to double check the dress code and outfit your child appropriately. Have them arrive in regular shoes, and bring their ballet shoes in a small dance bag. Once they have entered the building from the car line, they will be given an opportunity to change their shoes before class. Dance bags and street shoes will be placed, by the children, at markers spaced six feet apart along the perimeter wall of the room.

- If desired, send a small personal water bottle with your child, which they can use before and after class. Our drinking fountain is currently closed as a safety precaution.

PREPARING MY CHILD FOR CLASS (virtual classes):

Private Zoom log-in information will be emailed home prior to your summer class week. Students will need a strong internet connection, a reliable device with the zoom software or app, a clear space at least 6ft. x 6ft. in which to comfortably dance, and a chair or other sturdy piece of furniture approximately chest height in which to use for a ballet barre.

PARENT OBSERVATION (in-person classes only):

In order to protect our students and staff, we will not be allowing parent observation this summer - with the exception of new families. Families who are new to our organization may send one parent to observe class on the Friday of their first enrolled week. Observing parents will be required to wear a mask and will be seated at the side of the classroom, at a safe distance from all students.
